I actually dreamed last night that I was there, trying to figure out how to escape.

I was just talking to my brother and I asked him the Societies stand on FB. He said they never actually mention Facebook in their comments but do "warn of the dangers of social networking sites." It was for all the same old reasons they used to warn against the internet: child stalkers, pornography, people who try and get ones to leave their marriage mates, etc. etc. etc. No mention of: "We are afraid the rank and file might read something we don't want them to know about." So people go on believing the society is looking out for their welfare when in reality they are covering their own asses.

Jehovahs Witnesses mental health?
by Marvin Shilmer injehovahs witnesses mental health?
today i uploaded a letter written in year 1992 to watchtower by an elder who is also a doctor of psychology.
what he says is rather alarming considering the size of the witness community.

How did you come by this letter? Is he still a JW? And do you happen to know how/if the society responded? The letter as it stands seems rather indefinite as to what he is trying to say. I think the evidence he references would probably be more hard-hitting. Though I wonder at his ability to share information that would fall under the doctor/patient confidentiality clause. Thanks for sharing.

Armaggeddon may occur invisibly
by mankkeli inat the end of today's meeting, some over-righteous friends were discussing the various possibilities of armaggeddon occuring invisibly, considering the explanation given within the "parousia" domain on the invisible presence of christ in 1914. they reffered to some articles which i am presently looking through.. .
while he was sitting upon the mount of olives, the disciples approached him privately, saying: tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence [pa?rou?sia, greek] and of the conclusion of the system of things?.
"in our day, then, what is meant by the biblical expression the presence of our lord jesus christ?

A new twist on the overlapping generations
by PYRAMIDSCHEME inhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3b5yrycmj9u&feature=share.
(this video was posted on the facebook page: towerwatch.).
in 2010 we had the new light on the overlapping generations...now there seems to be a new twist.

There is no change, tweak, or twist to the doctrine this year.
I don't remember hearing the new explanation offered in this talk before. The application of Revelation 6:9-11. That sounded to me like they had been frantically trying to find further scriptural evidence to support their crazy new idea and found a way to twist a totally unrelated scripture around.
Then his comment that the current overlapping generation was advanced in years seemed, to me, to contradict what we understood last summer. That if the last member of the first generation (1.0) died in 1992 then somebody born just before then who began to partake would be part of that overlapping generation. A generation that could not be considered advanced in years.
It seemed to me the above referenced talk was a "refinement" of their teaching due to widespread criticism and confusion. I agree with steve2, it sounds like a cut and paste job.

Would you call this a sign?
by Lunatic Faith insince i decided to leave off being a jw i have been pursuing an interest in new age/celtic religion.
i don't want anything to do with christianity any more, but don't have enough knowledge yet to completely abandon all belief in god.
i am also averse to accepting this life is all there is since i spent half of it wasting my time as a jw.. anyway, i have found a local coven that is looking for new members and is willing to train anyone who is new.

Since I decided to leave off being a JW I have been pursuing an interest in New Age/celtic religion. I don't want anything to do with Christianity any more, but don't have enough knowledge yet to completely abandon all belief in God. I am also averse to accepting this life is all there is since I spent half of it wasting my time as a JW.
Anyway, I have found a local coven that is looking for new members and is willing to train anyone who is new. I met with them today at Barnes & Noble so they could interview me and show me the books I would need for the Wicca 101 class. We were visiting quite amiably when we noticed a man nearby listening in and looking at us like our eyes were going to start glowing red just before we ripped out his heart. I remember thinking, "I wonder if that's one of JW's. Nah, it's saturday morning. They're all in service."
So me and my new acquaintences parted ways and I decided to step into Starbucks and get a coffee when a car group of JW's showed up. NOt just any JW's, but ones I have known my whole life and used to pioneer with. These are the people I always think of when I worry about disappointing old friends. There they are! Moments after my discussion with the high priest and priestess of the local coven! I smiled at their daughter before I realized who she was, and managed to slip out the door before I was confronted. Unless my brother has been talking these people don't know anything is amiss with me.
My first thought was, "OMG, is this an intervention?" Does Jehovah actually exist and is he giving me one more chance to straighten myself out before I burn the last bridge? What if I'm wrong and the JW's are right? Then I started thinking straight and chocked it all up to coincidence. But what do you think? If you had encountered this same situation, what would your reaction be?

I find the charge of ingratitude patronizing and ignorant. What should we be grateful for? For a lifetime sacrificed to an ideal that was based on lies? For the countless hours and money spent listening to propaganda? To say we are all ungrateful is to completely miss the point and shows just how blind and obtuse they really are.
"Nauseating unscriptural teachings"--I have never heard WT doctrine so succinctly described.

Convention Weekend
by Lunatic Faith ineverybody in my area (jw's) is at the convention this weekend...and i'm not.
i didn't realize how really great i would feel when this weekend came.
i'm not sitting in a crowded coliseum, on uncomfortable chairs, sweating in my nylons, creating new blisters on my feet, juggling note books and bibles and wishing all the people around me would disappear.

Oh God, I helped make the hoagies one year and that pretty much made me hate the things. I miss the cheese danishes and frozen orange juice.

I actually used to find conventions exciting and paid rapt attention. Now I am just glad not to have to deal with it. They were great when I was single and young but they have become a major stressor.
How many are still grateful to not attend conventions and assemblies? What do you find to do with the money you save? More camping? More beer?
